A neighborhood vision shaped by its community
The Northeast Neighborhood
Northeast Somers Point is a diverse waterfront community located within Census Tract 128.01. The neighborhood stretches from Route 9 to the bay and from the City of Linwood boundary to Harbor Lane, Sunny Avenue, and Connecticut Avenue.
Within its approximately 0.98 square miles are residential communities, the Route 9 business corridor, Somers Point Shopping Center, Dawes Avenue Elementary School, Kern Field, the Somers Point Bike Path, parks, local institutions, and bayfront spaces.
Approximately 3,888 residents and 1,668 households make up this close-knit community. Its families, businesses, public spaces, and waterfront character have helped shape the neighborhood’s identity—and its vision for the future.
A resident-driven planning process
In 2024, residents and community stakeholders began working together to identify the neighborhood’s strengths, needs, and opportunities.
The City formed the Somers Point Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization Committee during the summer of 2024. Committee members represented residents, neighborhood businesses, public institutions, civic organizations, and local leadership.
The planning process included:
Neighborhood committee meetings
Community meetings and public discussions
Outreach to residents and property owners
Conversations with businesses and nonprofit organizations
Engagement with schools and community institutions
Focus groups and stakeholder interviews
A neighborhood survey distributed to property owners
Public review of neighborhood priorities and proposed strategies
This process was designed to ensure that the neighborhood strategy reflected community experiences—not assumptions made from outside the neighborhood.
